Unfortunately, a user(s?) on Arcor’s network has been stealing
UserFriendly.Org’s content and, *more* unfortunately, the staff at
Arcor has been unwilling to help us find and educate the offender(s).
Actually, there has been no response from them at all.
By not responding, they are basically saying, leave us alone, we don’t
care who rips you off – and if we let everyone back in without finding
the culprit…well…I’m sure you can see our problem đ
It saddens us deeply that you cannot get your daily dose of UF and suggest:
– if you know someone at Arcor, feel free to forward this letter
– if you don’t, forward it to any abuse/support contacts you do have
– source a responsive provider and switch ISP’s! (and tell any and all
Arcor using UFies you know to do the same – If you find/know of one,
please let s know and we’ll both post it’s name on the site AND pass
it along to other unfortunate UFies denied their daily laugh)
start or at least participate in broadcast letter writing campaign
and/or petition to get Arcor’s attention
–begin: Why Arcor users are blocked from accessing UserFriendly.Org—
A user or users unknown on Arcor’s network has been using scripts to
pull the cartoon and the use of scripts is, per our FAQ, not allowed.
(Further info on UserFriendly.Org’s scripting/blacklisting policies
below.)
The abuse via Arcor has been significant and we’ve been asking for
Arcor’s help in finding and educating the offender(s). Unfortunately,
Arcor’s support/abuse folks have, so far, been unresponsive.
This lack of response has left us no choice but to blacklist ALL
Arcor’s users. đ
Any help you can provide would be very much appreciated, so feel free
to contact Arcor’s support/abuse dept’s yourself (they may be more
responsive to a customer!) and ask them to get in touch.
We’d love to hear from a tech/abuse/support/etc person at Arcor, work
with them to resolve this issue and restore access ASAP for yourself
and ALL UserFriendly.Org fans on Arcor’s network!
Anyway, sorry for the long winded (even more info below!) message, we
sincerely hope to hear from Arcor so we can block the baddies and let
everyone else back in!
Thanks,
David Barton

—BEGIN: UserFriendly.Org FAQ background on the use of scripts—-
Using a script to pull UserFriendly.Org content/comic strips is not
allowed (per our FAQ) and offenders are blacklisted when discovered.
If, due to the actions of one or more users, an entire ISP has been
blackholed, we’d be happy to help the ISP’s support/abuse staff find and
educate the person(s) responsible.
Please remember that readers support UserFriendly.Org financially by;
a) viewing the cartoon on the web – thus viewing the ads and clicking
on any of interest;and/or
b) via the purchase of a membership:
http://ars.userfriendly.org/users/choosesponsorlevel.cgi
We’ll need some assurance that scripts will no longer be used to pull
the cartoon(s) before we unblock this IP – We look forward to your
positive response, thanks!
